Good evening.
Time for us to focus our thoughts on what is a massive, massive game. The list of those we failed to replace, the injured and the retired is well documented. The victory against Maribor was welcome of course but needs to be appreciated in the context of – this was an unremarkable Maribor.
That said, it will create a feel good factor. That’s quite rightly how football works.

But how brave will the boss be against the Champions? My suspicion is that the answer is ‘not too brave.’ I don’t believe he’ll play Hugo and I don’t believe he’ll drop Walker and certainly not for Naughton. I believe that showing confidence in players cuts both ways and ‘that’ goal in the Naughton/Lloris fiasco shouldn’t be used as stick to beat either men with.
Carroll has to start. To dare is to naffin’ well do and I think he’s earned this. Against City I believe we need to play with a 3 in the midfield given the resources. Thud and Sandro isn’t enough. It will end up with Mr Beastly doing himself a mischief again. But more so it’s a case of we must be creative and the two Toms between them will give us a fighting chance.
Bale on the left, Azza Lemon on the right and for me it’s Adebayor to start. Do you drop your hat-trick man? The brave do. On the strength of the Europa game Ade is back or at least very close to being back in business. We miss Moussa horribly and between Carroll and Ade we can at least attempt to mend and make do.
I predict a 3-2 win.

AVB won’t drop Defoe, he should but he won’t. Walker has been steadier so will start. Dempsey will take Carroll’s place and Freidel will start, which I dont agree with. But then, I find myself not agreeing with a lot of what AVB does…

Agreed thats the exact team AVB will pick, wrong in my eyes, I dont rate Dempsey at all.
Id go with 2 up top in Ade and Defoe, Hudd and Sandro in the middle, Have Ade drop short, Carroll cant be risked even though he would cope fine
November 10th, 2012 at 5:34 pm
LLoris is not ready to face Aguero and Tevez in the Premier League. Friedel would be the sensible choice. With Silva returning for them its all about the midfield. If we do not have Sandro I do not see us getting joy ultimately though we’ll have our moments. Please be fit my Brazilian Beauty and the Beast.

How is Lloris not ready? Most probably, we’ll need him to come off his line to claim corners or through balls – something Grandad will never think of doing.

He is not ready for the physicality and the pace of the premier league because he has not played the games to prove he is ready. Do you fancy him coming off the line to get the ball against Yaya Toure? It took ONE clanger of a tackle from King on Balotelli to give away the penalty that cost us the match and Lloris has had two dodgy moments in two matches running against much weaker opposition then the Champions of the toughest league in existence.
It’s nothing personal. It’s just risk analysis.

Are you kidding me? Lennon has been our player of the season so far and will trouble City as much as anyone we have. Bale has just started to press the pedal. Lennon’s been doing it from day one of the season.
Spurs have the most counter attacking goals this season in all of the Premier League. We have to start with both Bale and Lennon.

Lennon and Bale on the flanks are an absolute must. So long as Huddlestone can keep feeding them it’ll give City something to think about.
And as much as I’d love to see Carroll given a chance, I think the more prudent option would be to deploy Ade in the withdrawn striker role.
Basically, though, anything except Dempsey.

Lennon’s been rubbish?, really-must be a look-e-Likey on the wing then?-he’s had the odd quiet game, but generally he’s been pretty good and on the back of his performances has regained his England place-Habib’s already pointed out the patently obvious and compounded that with the facts-but yeah-30m is pushing it- to you.. 29,9999.50..go on it’s a bargain

Falque or Townsend instead of Lennon?? And you say you’ve seen every game?? Come on, this isnt Championship Manager! Yes Lennon still needs to know when to shoot and when to pass but as Habib said, the stats dont lie!
I like Townsend I do, hes got a good cross and is not afraid to take people on and Falque looks like he could have something BUT they are no-where near ready to take on City. Its like the Lloris debate, I too want to see him as our first choice but currently Brad is playing well and until Lloris gets a run of games, his form will occasionally be indifferent. I certainly would not bring him right into this one.

Actually, I’ve been thinking about Lennon’s form-and it’s his home form-and you could also put Bale into that category-as two examples of playing poorly at home with the system AVB’s deployed this season. Both played well in Weds line-up when they reverted back to 442.So even it all means a Harry style football without the Harry-I’d say that bloody marvellous-after all, aren’t some of the best idea’s just someone else’s but perfected by a little tinkering here and there?

Townsend is a drop in grade which you don’t want for one of the big games of the season. You need your big players.

‘that’ goal in the Naughton/Lloris fiasco
I agree that these guys shouldn’t be punished too severely for the mis-hap. But these are players that you (and others) were adamant should be playing instead of Walker and Brad. I hope the ‘incident’ serves as justification as to why AVB has not been selecting them for the Prem ahead of their counterparts. A fcuk up in the EL against poor opposition is forgivable. But dropped points in the Prem would’nt be.
Or would it?
Would it be okay losing a game comforted by the fact that the ‘future’ players were learning?
Fcuk if I know. but I don’t think they’ll adapt, this side of December.

Here here, he has also dropped 2 simple crosses (one of which should have cost a goal), thrown the ball to a Villa player (from which they missed a simple chance), put Naughton under pressure (from which Maribor scored) and parried into the path of a Norwich player which cost a goal and a defeat.
So far he has looked dodgy and certainly doe not inspire the confidence that Friedel does. He hasn’t shown that he can command the box at all.

3 wins away and a dodgy defeat would indicate to me that our away form isn’t too shabby-many are confusing the system deployed at home, and are prepared to throw baby out with the bathwater.
Keep the same system for away games-but revert to 442 at home where teams need to be broken down with pace.

I’d rather have the team which played against Wigan, with Defoe instead of Dempsey in the hole, and Ade up front with both of them switching their jobs in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Though we would miss Dembele, if Thudd overcomes his habit of running a bit with the ball in space and then passing rather than just the latter, we could be in with a chance. 1-1 draw for me, frankly would be great if we avoid a loss, and i’m usually on the optimistic side of predictions for Spurs.

For me if my name was Boas it would have to be 4-2-3-1 Lloris in goals purely for his distribution it will be handy for the counter. Then Walker-Gallas-Caulker-Vertonghen familiarity in defence would be nice but wouldn’t be adverse to seeing Dawson in for Gallas. Next Sandro-Carroll was really impressed by the latter midweek. Forward-midfield of Lennon-Ade-Bale. Adebayor gets around and involved so much more involved than siggy or dempsey. Then Defoe the cherry on top

To date, probably the only two examples of dodgy distribution that can be laid at Lloris’ door.
Offset this against Brad’s hoofs upfield (and consequent loss of possession) and I’d say Hugo fares pretty well considering.

There are two teams; the one most people appear to want to see and the one AVB will choose.
I’d choose Lloris because he needs regular matches at the highest level. Caulker, Gallas and Vertgn pick themselves. I hear the case for Dawson but he is ring rusty and we need Gallas’ experience. I’d have anybody other than Walker but we don’t have anybody.
Without Sandro we will need Thud and Livermore ( I know but we need somebody who can tackle). Defoe will get eaten alive by Kompany and company so it has to be Adebayor for me and I’d pair him with Sigurdsson.
We are due a clean sheet. I am going for 0-1.

No way he will bench Defoe after a hat trick. I would continue with 4/4/2. According to AVB the way our boys were playing it doesn’t differ from his 4/2/3/1 that much. We will get eaten alive with only one striker. Start Carroll along with whichever of Thudd or Sandro is healthy.
While I prefer ( still)!Lloris to Friedel, our 12 million pound man has been making some very basic errors. Not confidence building.

The Spartan is going for a 4/5/1 formation in the belief that the game will be won or lost in the midfield.
Friedel in goal. He’s calm and steady and won’t be over awed.
Kyle’s at full back for obvious reasons.
Verhonkytonks at CB. Quite simply the best CB at the club and arguable the best player in the squad. A leader.
Dawson. Our backs will be against the wall and Dawson is the best man to have alongside you in the trenches. May not have the technique of Caulker, but his experience and passion will be telling. A leader alongside Vertonghen.
Bale and Lennon on their respective sides.
CM trio of Sandro and Livermore with Huddlestone sitting a little deeper.
I would prefer not to have to rely on Livermore or Huddlestone but have to for obvious reasons.
Defoe up front.
This is a solid slightly more defensive set up, but with pace on the wing and creativity through the middle when we need it.
Defoe as the lone ranger won’t be everyones cup of Lapsang Souchong but this line ups strength is in the counter attack. Defoes only job is to be in the right place at the right time.

Agree that Lennon isn’t up to the job.
It’s all very well ‘creating chances’, but how many chances has he taken?
His crossing isn’t good enough in a 442, and he doesn’t score anywhere near enough if we’re playing with just one up front. He still can’t strike a football cleanly at the age of 25; he’s not going to improve. Here’s a stat for the Stattos amongst you: Lennon has averaged less than 3 goals a season since turning pro.
Lloris should definitely start, he is the future, and the sooner the team get used to having the same keeper at the back the better. It’s absolutely crazy to keep rotating them.
We’ve ridden our luck in a lot of games this season and I think it will run out today. 3-1

I partially agree with you on this one, TMWNN… the thing about playing AVB’s 4-3-3 is that the 3 up front have all got to score regularly…
I think Lennon is great/fine/fantastic in a 4-4-2, where his main role is as a provider and supplier of width… however, in a 4-3-3 he must get into more shooting positions and get more shots away…
If we’re going 4-3-3, I’d be tempted to push Defoe wide for this one and leave Lennon as an impact sub…
Friedel
Walker Dawson Caulker Verts
Sandro Hudd Carroll
Bale Ade Defoe

If Sandro is out I’d play Vertonghen in the middle instead and naughton at left back. I’d play loris because Gallas isn’t quick enough in my book. I’d also play carol as number 10 and Ade too. Bring Falque on if Carroll starts to look off he pace.

Not an expert here but boy, Spurs looked like they had no business being on the field with the champs today. What were the final possession numbers? I don’t think I remember Spurs putting together 5 straight passes without turning it over the whole game. Dempsey was non-existent and that transfer is certainly not looking like one that will work. Huddlestone had some good set piece kicks but I lost count of how many errant passes he had. Our offensive philosophy seemed to be just kick it down the field and hope for a lucky bounce. There was no passing, no possession, no nothing. Really, I am surprised it wasn’t worse than 3-1 because City completely dominated this game.
I thought against Chelsea they at least played well, especially considering who they were missing. Today there were really no excuses. They were just outclassed and I have my doubts whether they are worthy of being talked about for a top-4 spot.

AVB was a strange appointment when Moyes seemed to available. I don’t think we needed a manager to come in and change so much, Moyes would have kept it simple and the way Everton are playing we have no chance of nicking him now.

Not sure where to start with that dabacle.
Dempsey – pure shite. Doesn’t even look interested.
Huddlestone – pure shite. Looked like he was playing in a different game.
Those two ensured Bale and Lennon never got in the game.
If it wasn’t for Sandro, we would have been hammered.
What the fuck was AVB doing taking off our only outlet?
Levy has well and truly fucked AVB by not bringing in any quality. AVB isn’t helping himself by making idiotic subs. It’s going to get messier.

AVB seems to be forgiven for everything by his followers “give him time” by the same people who begrudge Harrys poor 3 months at the end of last season.

For various reasons it’s not surprising we lost. I thought AVB picked the right team – except Jan shouldn’t be at LB. It was a bold move to go with Ade, and the right one. However:
Why on earth were we playing a high line against Aguero etc? We could have come onstuck on numerous occasions.
What was the point of the Defoe sub? Ade far and away our best player today and the only one slowing the game down, breaking up play and keeping possession. Needless to say, this all went away when Defoe came on.
He really should have seen that Vertonghen was getting done over repeatedly at LB – as he has been in every game he’s played there. Naughton should have come on earlier and at LB, tucked Jan into the middle.
We badly need to find a plan which doesn’t involve Dempsey and does involve more possession in midfield. Carroll can at least pass the ball and at the moment would be worth playing in a midfield 3 with Sandro and Thudd I think. Losing Modric has ripped the midfield to shreds.

Excellent points. I couldn’t agree more about the need to bring Jan back in the middle. Caulker struggled mightily the entire match to stay close to Gallas, keep track of Aguero, and to pick up attackers in the box. The kid scored a nice goal but was at fault on both goals.
We badly missed Luka in there today. I can’t remember Sandro getting on the ball more than twice the entire match.

I agree. Players also look at team sheets. No Modric or VDV this year, replacements? a fat bloke called Hudd-something stone and an overated yank. The team does not strike the fear into any opponents anymore only Sandro. Dempsey was a last minute buy and Hudd was on his way out. AVB has to get players he wants in January, and sell or loan out the obvious weak links. The team knows who are the weak links are also. I would imagine more changes in January if AVB hasnt been sold a red herring.

AVB says:
We looked good in the first half and didn’t deserve to concede for the game to go 1-1. We were playing well and they scored from the counter attack
When Mancini went three at the back, we had to adapt in a certain way.
We did? Didn’t notice that.

We had 10 percent of the possession in the first half. On their first, Walker panicked and kicked the ball straight back in the action to Aguero, who was then allowed to slide into the middle by the naive Caulker. Those are juvenile mistakes, not some random chance of bad luck.
I need to get my hands on the happy pills this psychopath is taking.

We lost 2-1 away to the champions. It’s a shame as we took the lead but we don’t have as good a team as they do. We have maybe 5/6th best squad that are playing below their capability at the moment but we are still 6th. Arsenal are behind us. But I don’t think we will get champions league this season and considering we have only done that once its not really overall surprising. AVB does not have the players he needs/wants. He would prob want to replace 7 of that team. If thats a good thing or not…I am unsure

Ade for example knew the golden talent of players such as VDV and Modric. He also knows that Hudd, Walker, Dempsey, and others need to wise up. If the wallet is not opened in Jan then dont expect smiley beers all round in the Corner Pin, even if Modric was not always looking interested the oppostion knew that he was dangerous. We’re clearly suffering from the summer’s transfer policy. Not only is the first team missing the creative spark of VDV and Modders, but the strength of our bench has significantly declined. Could understand the penny pinching, while the supporters are paying the Prem’s 2nd highest season ticket prices to watch an inferior product, if there was a sign of something like a new stadium on the horizon, but there’s been nothing but hot air for years now. It’s no wonder people are pissed off.

I still have faith in AVB. I doubt either Siggy or Dempsey were his transfer choices and neither have impressed to date. A this level its about marginal decisions. Huddlestone has skill but lacks the mobility for a top box to box player. I would player Parker and Sandro as two defensive midfielders away from home with Lennon, Dembele and Bale in front of them and Adebayor as the sole striker. We could be more expansive at home and play a 442 formation if we wanted too.
It is frustrating being a Spurs fan. We have so much pace across the team at our disposal but rarely get beyond teams.
I am watching Chelsea v Liverpool now and the mobility of the Chelsea team especially in midfield is what impresses me.

It’s certainly not nice to see the team losing like that. Many here disliked the way Spurs’ performance versus City. I don’t anything wrong with that when it’s the champions we’re facing, and without a key player in a key position. Losing VDV and Modric without adequately replacing them hurts. Dempsey isn’t cut out to be playing as the No.10 role. Adebayor basically came in and played Dempsey’s role way better. Maybe it’s time to play Adebayor in Dempsey’s role? Walker’s mistake led to the first goal. Lloris in place of Friedel could have saved both goals IMO. And Huddlestone, Jesus he is slower than Toure sprinting at half of full speed. Could have at least hassled Silva before he created the City’s 2nd goal if he’s been faster. West Brom and Everton is now higher points than Arsenal and Spurs, they’ve been impressive, but they’ve only faced 1 of the 3 top sides so far, unlike Spurs and Gunners who’ve faced all 3.

I really would love to see attacking gutsy football, but I don’t see anyone who can create the chances or who can change the game with a moment of genius – Look at United, Chelsea and City – they all have at least one player who can show that magic. Modric and VDV were the suppliers and were the ones who supplied Lennon and Bale last season. This year we have ten ton Tommy and Dempsey as our inspiration. I’d be surprised if anyone could work with that.

This squad is nowhere near good enough to meet our ambitions and it’s not a million miles away from what we were watching in the second half of last season. Well. Bale hasn’t exactly earned that £40m price tag this season has he?
I agree AVB should be able to get a more cohesive strategy with those players. I don’t know if you can blame a player for not being very good the buck should definitely stop with some1 and more often than not it is the manager/coach.
Overall, regardless of who’s in charge, the players we have especially the attackers strike no confidence in me what so ever.
I just don’t see us achieving anything with Defoe, Ade, Sig and Dempsey. There’s someone missing, Dembele? Modric?
If we had a real goal scorer, a real threat to the opposition then I could focus on the tactics but when the players seem so weak I hold back from blaming the coach.
[Reply]
November 11th, 2012 at 6:34 pm
Could someone tell me why we sold Kranjcar and got in Sig and Dempsey? Niko may not be the best attacking midfielder but he is the best out of the three. Or instead of getting both Sig and Dempsey just put that money into Willian who is excerlent and would have come to us. Say would have as each week our team looks less and less an attractive prospect for potential players. I do not blame AVB one bit. What is killing this team is not enough creative ideas from the midfield ie a poor recruitment drive over last summer lead by Levy has left us with no bite. Even with Demebele (who is excellent) we need and should have more players who can thread a pass and move through the opposition on the ball. What worries me is if we don’t get anyone of this quality in Jan I really can’t see us being top 6 even. AVB is doing the best he can with what he has, and although he has made a few odd choices over the months he has done a good job for a new coach. But he is not going to save us from slipping with the tools he has, when we get some of our key plays back we will improve greatly but we still need better then Dempsey!

I don’t think he’s doing a great job no. I think he has to accept a lot of the responsibility for the poor performances. He’s the coach and you are correct, the buck stops with him.
But I honestly believe that his job at Spurs is a very difficult one and I would like Levy to allow him to peruse some players in January so we can judge him based purely on his abilities as a manager. I don’t believe any of our signings in the summer were his targets.
If a captain inherits a sinking ship it would be unfair to hold him responsible for it’s demise. I do think he inherited a squad with cracks in it so sorting it out this season is his job. Not CL or FA cup. There are guys with twice his experience who I believe would also struggle.
Ultimately what I want for Spurs is a manager who will stay with us and make us something great. I don’t believe we’ll ever do what they did at Chelski and Citeh. It takes a billionaire to turn a club around overnight. For now I can be patient with AVB. But I cant second guess a man who has far more experience in his job than I ever will. Only time can tell and I think thats about all Levy has given him.

AVB is a class act ? Why because he won the league in a two team competition.. he won the UEFA cup where English teams dont show up and he had a team full of world class players such as Falcao(who he didn’t sign)
We have a lot of injuries yes but we should’ve beaten Wigan,Norwich and West Brom at home.I REALLY WANT him to do well but his brand of football is already a step down and hes seems to be defended for things Harry won’t have been chastised for.
We offered nothing today or last week and our midweek win against a poor poor side just emphasised how we only have Bale as a truly world class player. Modric wanted to go.. so sell him ,VDV could only play 60 mins 4 times a year ,fine sell him but you MUST bring in some world class marquee signings to replace them.

How you can knock him when you as a Spurs fan had bragging rights because of him.

Mike a few things-
He would turn around this pile of crap that we have to endure in a matter of days
1.what game changers do we have on the bench?.. eh none really- Livermore, Carroll?-
2. we do not have a skilled central link player to feed a striker- TH is a luxury, and is struggling
3 If I remember, it was a couple of outstanding displays from Bale that dragged us kicking and screaming back into the Milan tie.
we need to buy well in january and get the gout sufferers back.
November 11th, 2012 at 7:47 pm
Can’t anybody see that Levy and ENIC are to blame?… I am sick of the fact that ENIC won’t buy players who can keep us in a Champions League position…They will build the new stadium and then sell the club. We haven’t got a hope while they are in charge.Season ticket holder and very pissed off.

All I’ve seen from Levy is spin – and that’s regarding the stadium and marquee signings.
All this while we’re paying the second most highest season ticket prices in the Prem (arguably the highest when you account for the Goon’s 6 additional cup games). Fleeced!

Friedel, did OK but not the way forward, never comes off his line and bringing in Hugo can’t come quick enough. Is is a coincidence that the only clean sheet in the prem this season is the 1 game that Brad didn’t play in?
Hudd, I’ve seen liners turn quicker, for such a clean striker of the ball he doesn’t hit the target often enough, not up to the job as he can’t cover the ground quick enought and when Dembele and Parker return we will look so much better.
Walker, needs a break as is playing poorly every week now, with their pace we should have all defences quaking in their boots however Lennon and Walker just aren’t doing it at the moment.
Dempsey, did he play today?? Another poor display.
AVB, no plan B, should have kept on Ade and partnered him with Defoe instead of leaving Dempsey on the pitch.
Levy, don’t leave trying to break the club signing record until the final day of the window, and yes, Moutinho would have made a difference today.
We are not playing well at the moment and can hopefully find our form next week against the South London Travellers. (If we can get some players back, Dembele, Parker, Kaboul, Benny would be nice.)
[Reply]
November 11th, 2012 at 10:43 pm
Van de vaart and Ade played well together. Why did we sell Rafa again? The Moutinhno deal was pivotel, as buying siggs and Dempsey have shown no sign of intent as neither are world class. We need Parker back to lead by example, we miss his grit and other players in the team feed of that. Kaboul is part of the ‘spine’ we found along with Parker, we can be weak without them, not putting in the last ditch, ball in the face 89 minute goal saving sliding tackle. LLORIS WALKER VERTONGS KABOUL* BAE* PARKER* LENNON BALE DEMBELE* DEFOE ADEBAYOR This team would have run them closer Andre

I think when Kaboul (he had a monster first game) Dembele and Parker come back we will be more solid but I cant stand the fact that we refuse to play Ade and Defoe out there together.
Along with wingers,Ade forms a great supply chain now Modric is not there.
Ade can hold it up and use his vision and timing better than anyone else.
Its just crazy to think of him as a box striker.
the other problem is that Dempsey has not been getting in good positions (one twos into forward positions because I think he works better not as the main up top striker but sneaking in from midfield and thats hard to do when the defence has no one else to mark except the oncoming Dempsey.

Great vision but can a premier league player in a team such as Spurs be that slow? he is good but the dynamics of the team suffer due to the speed and fluidity being affected. He and Clint will be fringe when we start getting our injured contingent back. Defoe and Ade with Bale and Lennon on the flanks is defo the way forward.

we are struggling at the back due to a huge injury list of our best defenders ,It is a wonder that the likes of aguerro, silva, tevez did not rip us apart. Not until maicon came on and then Dzeko with fresh legs and something to prove did the blue mankinis look like turning us over in fact they looked like they would implode with their dodgy tackling and constant whinging.I reckon with what Avb had to put out he drilled them pretty well and this frustrated the moonies no end.
Me being a bit of a cavalier would have gone to attack them and started with defoe and ade up front with either carrol given a free reign or falque , an unknown quantity to mankini and might of caught them off guard. We are not that bad against the big boys all things considered. I think we can do the gooners next week.
We miss Benny alot more than is realised it means that verts has had to adapt and so we havent seen his best yet. also bale misses bennys service and he has lot to do with pushing us forward ,our shape has changed a lot because of his injury.

Of course we should judge AVB on players who are not his own signings and an injury list similar to that of the mid-90s playing against a team unbeaten in 34 matches and able to spunk a enough money on Bale to buy TWO new stadiums for Spurs without batting eyelid.
This man will need to get through this season, buying in January and summer and go for it next season before we get a real feel for whether he is up to the job or not.
Maybe he doesn’t rate Walker long-term and is waiting to offload him. Until then, he needs to keep playing him to keep his value and because, well, there’s fucking no one else. Maybe he is intent on buying two strikers and offloading Defoe in January. Give him a fucking chance.

This club will sell players for 30m or more but I don’t believe we will ever pay that kind of money for a player.
Think of the names we have been linked with. Matta, Hazard, Oscar, Dzeko and Aguero. We didn’t get any of them.
If you are looking for January saviours (AVB) I’m afraid they won’t be coming, we might though get a few more of the same quality we have already got.
Hopefully we can dig up a gem or two, although that doesn’t happen all that often.
I see Modric has been called in for extra 1 to 1 training. He was massively important for us but I think there are better players at RM already and his game is not as big as Ozil and co.

All in all, things aren’t a lot different to last season apart from the brand of football we seem to be playing. It hasn’t seemed to work at home very well so far but away it has served us better. We have gained some good points away but thrown virtually the same amount away at home. My point is, the tactics have changed but the points tally is much the same, so far.
The only difference now is we look a predominantly defensive side rather than an attacking one. Is that the Spurs way and if it isn’t, should we betray our traditions when we are no better off?

I dont think beating Arsenal will solve the problem.
Its something I hope we do but Id rather see the potential in the quality of play and Im afraid I havent seen it.
I have no axe to gring and have an open mind but so far not impressed and not sold on AVB in the slightest.
I havent seen anything that shows that the main thing he holds his hat on,his tactics,is offering anything special.
Excuses can only go so far.I still havent given up hope but how long can you wait to see potential evolving?
You would think that Dempsey being a bit of a fighter would fight his way out of this with some inspiration and ideas by the manager.
Im shocked at the way Lloris has been treated and as of the past game it looks like the negativity is getting to him.
Im giving AVB to the end of the season and hope that we start seeing some quality soon. But Im certainly not going to wear rose coloured glasses.I didnt with Harry and I wont with AVB.

It’s not really the defeats that bother me too much-it’s the manner of them that I worry about. Last season, the same ground-same team-same result-but boy was the difference in my mood. I’d seen my side BATTLE back from a two goal deficit- to almost win the game-but eventually lose it by a rash tackle. Yesterday-Ouch! We had them, really had them-their crowd were whining (bit like ours I thought) and they were playing into our hands. Forget the injuries-these were the players on the field-and they were doing it-until Mancini makes a change and our manager didn’t have the nous to deal with it-I hope he learns-but we’re too narrow
right now-also by settling for a draw-you’re asking for trouble-and guess what-we found it!

we are going round in circles with clappers and anti clappers, the football was exciting in the arry years no doubt about it but it’s not like we don’t remember spurs before that for years and years and we are still here, levy and arry split up we have to move on,
avb needs some more of his own buys, that is standard for us isn’t it,dawson and thudd were gone but are playing now,we fell short in the summer, messed up and the dempsey and sigg no show isn’t helping
personally i don’t see the point in getting on everybodys back when 4th is still in the mix, whether avb’s style of football is ever going to light up the lane is another matter altogether,it’s continental counter attack but i thought we’d have more keep ball possession myself but i’ll wait until at least dembele is playing let alone kaboom, parker and benny who at least have some character in them

Fact of the matter is that no team will have an injury free squad at any point and all will have better and worse periods. Yes, we have some key injuries at the moment but this doesn’t fully explain the poor football we are playing and doesn’t offer any justification for the poor decisions AVB makes in almost every game.
Just saying, say what you see. It’s not just injuries, and anyone thinking that is deluding themselves. AVB needs to sharpen up.

Forget the injuries for now-this was about those on the park yesterday-and they were doing it forcing Man City into a reshuffle at half time-surely we’d have had a plan, an idea or just the bollocks to deal with it rather than sit back and wait for the inevitable? I an really perplexed right now as to what the plan is or is supposed to be.
I’ve seen some pretty shitty performances over the years believe me and this isn’t even in the top 100, but I honestly can’t see what we’re trying to achieve right now?-we were just asking to be beaten-and we did. To win games you have to ask questions of the opposition, surely?
What purpose was there in keeping Dempsey on and not replacing him with Siggy? OK, they’re both in poor form-but at least you’re asking the opposition to re-think, if only for a while, and maybe it could work out-rather than persisting with a player who’s clearly struggling and allowing the opposition to concentrate on their own play…..

Ok.. so it may be fair to state that AVB did not get the players he wanted in the summer transfer window… but he did inherit a pretty good squad with the addition of Demebele and Vertonghen who look good acquisitions.. ( we will not dwell on the likes of Dempsey and Siggurson here :()
He hangs his hat however on being one of the worlds top young tactical coaches and alongside that I would assume he has to be half decent at motivating and inspiring players…
My problem is I am struggling to see exactly what the tactics are in terms of sophistication and substitutions.. and I am failing to see any real fight or spirit in the squad as a whole apart from some individuals like Sandro who seem to be willing to almost die for the cause…
it is muted that he plays a “high line” and possession football like Barcelona.. well I have yet to see us dominate any match under his stewardship where we have been able to push upfield with a high line.. most matches we are pinned back for long periods deep into our own half and hoofing wild clearances anywhere ….
I am no Redknapp advocate and wnated him gone TBH as he became to self serving in the end but we played some of the best possession football I have ever seen under his management far closer to the barcelona model than i have seen under AVB…
so my question is exactly what does AVB bring to the party… if it is not tactics and not motivation and we dont have the world class players we need… the signs are worrying.I really wanted him to be a success prove all the critics wrong and become one of the worlds top young coaches and build a THFC to be proud of…
I should have seen a glimmer of that by now … even if it was just a glimmer and I have not . i am now seeing a very pedistrian and lacklustre looking football team befreft of creativity and flair and team spirit….if I was Levy I know its early doors but the I would be very concerned..
