Good evening Record Breakers.
Whilst the second half degenerated into a hoof ball festival with the headline act being Brad F & Sunshine Coach Band we beat Manchester United in their own back yard. At half time their fans were booing. Did you hear them? And at full time their club lost the game.
Are the two mutually exclusive? Hats off yet again to our away support. Always outnumbered, rarely outgunned. A genuine credit to the firm.
There were those who who went missing in the second half and questions need to be asked about our collapse offensively. Rooney was a primary factor. But wow, what a great performance from the boys, eh? Jan, Bale, Moussa, Sandro, Azza, so many positives. So many…
Where were you watching? Who were you with? How’s your heart?! I ? AVB.

….we tried that last yr against the scum…remember??? look how that turned out.. also a couple of times being 2-0 up and 3-0 up at half time against the red mancs.. and conceding 5 in the second half…. AVB done good!! the Lads did incredible.. apart from the gits-in-red throwing themselves to the ground anywhere close to the penalty box (a litle trick they picked up from Ronaldo) the only thing that wasn’t thrown at the Lads saturday was the personally engraved SAF sink, from his private kitchen within the depths of Old Trafford….. although i do suspect Fergie threw it around in the home dressing room after the game.. 23 yrs and about bloody time!!!

Lol yes I have to agree, his positional play at times is a bit erratic but he is young and that will improve, at the end of the day no goal came from his side (although RVP and Evra could have scored from his mistakes)
How about Caulker though, he is Ledleys clone doesnt need to make a challenge just has perfect positional play and cuts the supply to the strikers…….his even better in the air that Ledley.
Damn what to do when Kaboul and Ekotto come back??????

I was in Jakarta watching live in a bar with waitresses who moonlighted as hookers watching Spurs Man U live while drinking Orange Juice shots when they thumped five past us. It hurts to this day.
This went a long way to erasing that.
A little about Sherwood. On the day he thought AVB would lose a game for sure he supplies journalists with information from inside Tottenham that the players are tired, over trained etc…. Unacceptable. They should fire him right now. I saw how stiffly AVB stood while Sherwood hugged him. If he did that because he’s going to Blackburn then good riddance.
To hear the away fans singing “Oh when the Spurs go marching in” to a silent Old Trafford…. PRICELESS!

If the lads had a genuine grievance, they could have simply gone through the motions today, knowing it would heap pressure on AVB. I think we know know where they stand, and it seems to be in line with our manager.

A: Attempt to Annoy The Mighty Spurs cos he has Gooneritis.
B: Hold on to his job for another week.

Fantastic win. Attacked superbly in the first half but why dud we not carry on in the second half? We became too defensive, pushing ourselves much too deep and losing control of the midfield. We did well, though, to withstand the attack under great pressure and maintain our precarious lead until the end of the match to earn 3 valuable points.. Well done, Spurs… I think our motivation, unlike previous years, was the winning factor this time. We must continue with this same spirit for the rest of the season.

Great performance from the lads. We won’t always play well (first half vs QPR and the second half today), but what the lads MUST ALWAYS do is show the commitment and desire they displayed for the 2nd time this week, if we are to achieve our full potential.
Really glad for everyone involved, but especially so for AVB, as the stick he has had to put up with from the media and some so-called Spurs supporters has been inexcusable.
Gallas was the standout performer for me today, a real leader of men. It was vital that he remained on the pitch after he went down late on in the first half, as I don’t believe we would have secured the victory without him. He held the defence together (was always in Caulkers ear-hole!) and was ready to put his body on the line for the cause. Lead by example.
I flagged up Kyle Walkers form (or lack of…..) a couple of weeks ago, and today as soon as Utd turned the screw, the cracks started to emerge, again. He’s been little more than shocking all season (if you consider the standards he set himself last term) and on current form should be replaced by Naughton at the earliest opportunity, even if its just to give the lad a wake up call. I’m afraid to say the guy is becoming a liability. If its not giving the ball away cheaply, its ball watching and constant misjudgements on the the flight of the ball. His crime sheet this season is already as long as my arm and only good fortune has prevented Spurs from suffering severely.
Rooney changed the match when he came came on. He kept dropping into less-advanced positions meaning Sandro/Dembele had to pick him up, allowing Scholes the space and time to start picking passes.
We needed luck on our side today, and luck duly obliged after deserting us so many times against UTD in the past. With Adebayor, Kaboul, BAE, Naughton, Parker and Livermore still to return to the squad, the future continues to look bright!

I had a late afternoon U6 match, which I tried every excuse in the book to get out of so I could watch the match live, and then suffered as my kids sleepwalked to a 24-2 loss. I was expecting to come home to another blow out to end a dismal day.
I have never been sold on Sandro. Until today. Even though he tired around the 60th, he was an absolute BEAST and completely dominated the first hour of the match.
Billy was my MOTM as he played with an obviously sore hammy and just gutted that match out. We would have been destroyed if he came off at the half. We do not have another player who could cover like he does for what is turning out to be the worst defending right back in the PL. How he constantly wins headers against players more than four inches taller than him absolutely defies belief!

Amazing that Fergie is whining that they didn’t ‘ get enough injury time. B Charioteer is right– call should have been for 17 minutes.
Point about the second half is that we stood them off. We won the game. BTW did not look like a team in turmoil to me.

Fantastic stuff from all concerned. AVB picked an attacking lineup to take the game to them on their own patch and we steam-rollered them in the first half. The pace and power was quite breathtaking at times.
Fair play to them, they gave it everything they had second half, but this was a bit of history in the making.

Our 1st game against a top4 team and we win away, with a 1st half performance that promises great things to come from AVB and this fine set of players
This taboo-breaking win can only inject more confidence into the side.
Billy was oustanding.. Bale kept very much to the left and drifted with sense…his best game so far
Vert at this rate will be competing for Bale’s role as an attacking LM !! he’s a great attacking LB so AVB with plenty of options now for the back 4.. looks a real leader and should be captain when Billy’s not playing.

Where did the “quote” from Sherwood originate from? If it’s Richard Keys’ twitter account he’s retracted attributing the “quote” to Tim. Also in his original comment, when he uses the word “us” I think he means the general public, not talksport specifically.

Danny are you Monkeypaws agent? If yes, tell him he shouldn’t be so desperate to appear “In the know” to attribute a “quote” to “Tim” whether he retracts it later or not. “Tim” may be “Innocent” but Monkeypaws is still a “Twat”.

I was really hoping it wasn’t true or Sherwood.. Sherwoods done a brilliant job and I was thinking that he was being primed for a better position at the club in the future..but equally if he’s intent on going into the madhouse at the Blackburn Chik-King (Northern Branch), then good luck to the blokie-provided he’s been up-front and not been telling tales, which if he has-then good luck to him at Blackburn Chik-King (Northern Branch)

Warren Barton is a disgrace on Fox Soccer, the anti AVB bull$hit coming out of his mouth in the early weeks of the season have been beyond embarrassing at times. The sheer anger in his face and the constant references to “having friends” at Spurs telling him how unhappy everyone is. At one point even the US commentators rounded on him to question his comments after such a short period in charge. Can’t wait to see what that knob jockey he has to say next week after this result! I predicted 3-1 spurs on your last post lastnight – ???? like you Brad (although made some good saves) still needs to mix up his distribution – the game has changed – it’s all about keeping possession and 50/50 clearances puts everyone under pressure again. I noticed Vert’s is pulling wide to receive the ball and whosh – touchdown ???? again..
Bonjour – I sense a Frenchman calling…?
Yes as mentioned earlier, one hell of a 3 points gained today – brilliant first half and with Brads kicking and a reactive 2nd 45 mins it was certainly an escape to victory today me old china????

I’m sure many will try to take away from today’s performance, but everything about it truly was immense. We kept 72,000 Manc fans quiet for a full half of football and thoroughly deserved to do so. Everyone to a man, including the great support, hemmed into a tiny corner of the stadium as we are, helped to create a whirlwind of attack in the first half and a wall of “You shall not pass” for the last 36 minutes.
Frankly, I’m knackered, and totally emotional. My 8-year old boy beside me at the match now sees that Tottenham not only protect a 2-0 lead at Old Trafford, but actually score again when the chips are down. As the man says, immense.

Gallas, Sandro and Vert where the standouts for me. Friedal, Christian Bale and Lennon also. To be ‘picky’ – Walker regularly added another 20bpm to what was already a near fatal heart rate… Ade would have possibly made thing a little more comfortable today, especially in the last 20 mins.
Have to note; twas really crap commentary on Fox Sports – hardly mentioned Spurs for 90 mins (or 90 (+4 fcuk off Fergy!)). I’m sure if I could have seen the commentators they would have both been draped in in a red flag, clutching a Rooney doll with one hand and something else with the other… Sick of hearing how they lost it and we didn’t win it…

I was at OT in Dec 1989 and again today. So bloody marvellous I got terrible camera shake when trying to photo our travelling support from the ‘home ranks’ at the end of the game. Kinda makes up for all the drubbings I’ve experienced in the intervening years.
I’ve had the privilege of attending all three home EPL matchestthids season as well as today and the improvement in the defensive aspect of our game is quite remarkable. What good headers of the ball wehad today.
If we can get Ade fit then I think our all-round game will take us to another level, commensurate with our CL and cup winning aspirations.

We were dominant in the first half and then Rooney juiced them all up in the second and I think then we gave them toomuch room especially Kagawa when he was on.He was always looking for space and found it. They missed a few in the second and I think we should have continued the pressure as Bale and Lennon were giving it to them big time although Defoe with allthat space did nothing in this one.
Overall Vertonghen was fantastic,Bale too. They were by far our bestplayers.Walker had a good game.Dembele was quite good.
Gallas played well.Freidel had a good game.
We should have uped our play in the second half because we could have got killed.

As great as that rearguard second-half performance was, it might not have needed to be so had Friedel’s distribution been better. Time after time at the conclusion of another Utd attack he was just hoofing it forward and letting them start all over again. I think I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times we retained possession from his clearances. He’s been a great servant but facts is facts and he’s the only one of our keepers to have not kept a clean sheet so far this year (and that includes games against the likes of Norwich, QPR and Reading). Time to step aside grandad and let the new boy take over.

For once Brad was not our best player. We took our chances when they arrived. Man. U threw everything at us for most of the second half. With 20 mins. to go I was starting to get a bit worried that we may lose focus late in the game as we have done so many times before. The defense held firm and won us the game. AVB now has a problem when BAE is fit again. Who does he play at LB. Vert. looks far more composed in there, and I think Caulker looks a natural. After a very poor start lets have some more of the same.

Watching the Utd goals again I think that Brad could have done better on both of them. They were both well struck, admittedly, but they were very close to him and he really should have been able to block at least one of them. What with that and his woeful second-half distribution I think we can expect to see Lloris installed as our number one stopper sooner rather than later.

Totally agree,we can’t wait for him to cost us points when we have one of the best goalies in the world in the wings.

Dave Mackay was a fantastic influence for Ron Henry especially and also others in our defence at that time.I think Vertonghen will make everyone around him better. His desire is great,he also has an understanding of space and how to close an attackers options down.
Im also looking forward to Lloris being our number one, even though Freidel has upped his game.

I was astounded by the fact that my newsagent this morning was not stocking a souvenir edition of the Sunday Times.
I really give up on the media. They had a chance of redeeming themselves and failed.
I remember Ferguson banned the Beeb – Radio 5 – from press conferences. AVB should invite Jiggins for a recorded one-on-one to give the twat a chance to show himself up. “Give ‘em enough rope…” and all that.
I’m disappointed with the Sherwood stories. I really think he was doing a fine job with the kids and is flexible enough to do other duties at the club.
If the twitter comments from Keys have been retracted, then doesn’t it suggest he’s been threatened with legal issues by Sherwood.
A statement from Sherwood would clear it up.
Sore head this morning. Alone in the room watching through fingers.
Wife not speaking to me.
Bliss.

Where is the Sherwood story? All I read was some bollocks in the Sun saying he was ‘alleged’ to have had a bit of a row with AVB. No quotes or nothing. Is there anything more to it than that?

It was a report that Key’s tweeted then passed on rumour made up by a wanker (Paul Jiggling my scrotum) whose nose was put out of joint by AVB, when trying to be clever, but failing in epic proportions-and may I add the same reporter (Paul Jiggling-my ballbag) whose ‘scoop’ about Dawson was laughed off live on air, by Dawson himself..happy anniversary Paul Jiggling my testicles, you’ve been made to look a complete cunt twice in a clalender year..and you’re still employed..incredible!

I am a supporter of the new regime but Im also a democrat.
We were fantastic in the first half but the second we hung in there. We could have done a better job in putting some pressure on them in the second.
Of course knowing our history there it was good to hang on but they had some openings and could have done us in.
Defoe and Lennon were just running nowhere and nobody was holding the ball up so they had all the momentum in the second.
We are good enough to not have put ourselves under that much pressure.
It was a great win though.

Agreed, though the first half could not be faulted by the players or AVB, I thought he could have acted sooner / better in response to the Utd onslaught in the 2nd half. He took off Dempsey who was the only person up front capable of winning a header or possibly holding the ball up, and put on Sig who was always destined to be another headless chicken. He also left Defoe on for far too long, he was literally adding nothing in the 2nd half and on the couple of rare occasions he had to take the ball to the corner, win a throw in, or whatever, he of course chose to try and beat 3 defenders and a goal keeper with a pot shot, not relieving any pressure.
I know it seems like nit-picking after a fantastic and I would say fully deserved result, but we all know how torturous that 2nd half was and we all know it could have gone to the usual script on another day. I do think we had a long overdue dose of luck there in that 2nd half, but all the same I think a couple of earlier and better subs might have made it a teensy bit more comfortable.
Then again, we won, so what do I know?

Didn’t it strike you as strange that the two players who looked shattered in the 2nd half, both played full games in midweek-Many on here are calling for cups over league position. Well it’s clearly evident that we can’t have both. If for example we’d have played Lazio instead of Carlise, you can bet a pound to a penny we’d have drawn that game yesterday-I’m afraid it’s one or the other and I’d sooner have nore day’s like yesterday, than winning a meaningless trophy anyday

Watched live in my apartment in South India. (I’m from London though).
Loved the 1st half, totally crapping it second. The best bit for me was AVB’s celebration at the end and hugging players.I have been converted.
