Good evening.

This from the Official Site. The Olympique Lyonnais Official Site, that is. This was published at a minute after 2000hrs this evening.

In short the statement says that the proposal submitted tonight by Spurs is significantly different to a proposal that was agreed in principle four days ago.

To my mind this smacks of everybody, not just Tottenham playing chicken on these transfer deals. The first guy to blink loses.

The Dembele deal is a good example. Not a single ITK had a sniff of it. Because the price was quoted and Spurs told that was the price. Not an opening a price, but that only two bids would be entertained.  A bid at the figure on the swing ticket …or a bid in excess of that figure.

This is poor, real poor. I think DL is shortdchanging this Hugo Lloris deal because he wants as much money available to him as possible to bring Fernando Llorente on board. I like Llorente, but there are better strikers out there that cost less, but we still need a keeper. Saldado is great but he’s not leaving his club, but Falcao is good, Remy is decent and we could have signed Demba Ba before the end of July but as usual, fired a blank. What’s going on you SPURS!!!????

So Sigurdsson,Vetonghen,Adebayor and Dembele a figment of my imagination ?

    Some people

    [Reply]

    Andrew Reply:

No imagination, maybe a figment, but certainly no imagination TD. We made some very good signings and Dembele is one to watch for the future. However, no one signed over £15m/£16m. In the case of Adebayor, not that Man C. needed the £5, but they wanted his wage concerns dealt with so they could be rid of him. I wouldn’t have minded if we could have also taken Edin Dzeko as the forward may eventually find he has no place at his club if Mancini and co. have their way.

Something’s not right with these stories as for one, we basically ended our interest in the 29yr old Dutch keeper Stekelenberg only to flop on the Lloris deal? I would have thought that if Lyon was such a tough club to deal with and they asked for £12.9 then I wouold have thought we should have just offered £13.1 and got it over with, so they can’t say we never met the player’s valuation. Penny pinching may save money but if you don’t spend money you can’t make money, thus the business won’t move forward.

    [Reply]

    Calum Reply:

None of these signings are good enough – were heading for a shit season unless we get a creative player on board, someone who can pick a pass and control the tempo of a game.

If Adebayor is injured its season over because Defoe can’t lead the line.

If we don’t get a big top class player in tomorrow there is no hope of CL.

Does no one else think sigurdson is a poor mans vdv?

    [Reply]

    Rocks Reply:

I agree with everything you said son. Apart from the bit about siggy! He has the potential to be be much better in creative plays and finishing than Vdv ever was or will be. He wil hit this potential this season. Watch this space

    Andrew Reply:

    ROTFLOL!

This is good, very good. Dembele has big potential. he showed a lot of skill and awareness in Fulham’s loss to Man. U. Sigurdsson is good, but he shines in a team with less star players, looks ordinary so far for us. Vertonghen is a good signing. Ade, well….Ade is Ade. Somewhere in the middle of the season he goes MIA. QWe need an attacking midfielder that’s a real trouble maker with the opposing defenses and a goal greedy striker. The difference between Big teams and the rest is that if a Big team really wants someone good who’s being sold for £20m, they pay £21m and get it out of the way. When a team asks £20m for a player (like Willian), Spurs offers £11.8m then renew their bid after being rejected at £11.9m. LOL I wouldn’t be surprised at this rate if we end up signing Del Piero and Michael Owen and extend Friedel’s contract through 2014.

Honestly, people believe the shit about us buying Hulk, Llorente, Kaka, Ronaldo, Maradona, Messi, Pele, and then moan when it doesn’t happen.

    [Reply]

    LOL x 20

Ade, a top notch forward? Hmm…something doesn’t sound quite right in that sentence. Ade has the potential to be far better than he is currently. Much like Andy Carroll, he loses focus too easily, tends to get very frustrated when things are going his way, also tends to be lazy, work rate not specialm, gets by on being naturally gifted and an imposing figure as a forward. Has decent speed, not the best finishing but not horrible either. Much better than Andy Carroll who has no speed and gets lost on the pitch quite often. This is just my opinion though.

OL are skint the player has agreed terms now levy & OL will haggle like 2 romanian’s at a horse fare,it was already aledged arsenal had bidded up early as a favour. The only people who 9 times out of 10 “get their man” are the Chelsea’s & Man city’s who can afford & don’t care about their pants pulled down throwing vast amounts around. So far we’ve bought good players & I’m happy. I’d like to see a few more go which would free up funds & wages. Hopefully a couple of players will be joining us tomorrow,I love the madness of deadline day & I’ll be alittle sad if VDV goes but I believe Levy does a good job & we’re moving in the right direction after stuttering under Harry & his very rich dog

    [Reply]

    Andrew Reply:

I wouldn’t like to see either VdV or Lennon leaving but we cannot discount the possibility of such a thing happening. If Levy and co. have agreed to terms with other teams for some special players and Spurs realize that teh only way they could acquire these players is to offload VdV, Lennon, Thudd, Dawson and Parker then they will. That’s 5 players, so just tink if they got 3 for thos 5 also counting the Modric Sale. Say Central Defender: Samba, Attacking Midfielder: Pjanic and Striker: Falcao/Llorente; would you think shipping off those 5 good players would be worth the 3 excellent and already established players?

Spurs picks up a 1 year contract on Andrei Arshavin

I don’t buy this. Levy’s background is in property. He approaches our squad like an investment fund. He’ll sell before a players sell on value can drop away (why we’ve entertained Defoe, Dawson, and VDV bids) to re-invest in younger players. This way you can recycle the cash over and over again for years.
Very occasionally he’ll break this model for sporting reasons, ala Parker. And if you think that’s to be taken lightly, that’s like him giving up £5m he won’t see back – 20% of which belongs to him as a shareholder I believe.
ENIC aren’t stupid, they know Spurs value and sale-ability becomes greater as our exposure and commercial appeal goes up, and that means CL. But we cannot afford to make any Bentley style mistakes, THAT is the cost of a new stadium. That we can’t afford to f*ck up and do a Liverpool in the market. Once we do that, it’s game over. Back Tramezanni, Moussa Saib and a decade of mid table mediocrity..

    Andy Reply:

You my friend are the smartest person on this thread. That is exactly what is happening. DL won’t allow sentimentality to get in the way of astute business decisions. His priority is to build Tottenham as a brand so that it becomes an attractive business and investment proposition to prospective buyers. The new stadium and ensuing increase in capacity and income is his means of achieving that. In the mean time, DL will only spend within our means.

Harry Spent loads of money on mainly shit players – then the penny dropped with LEvy when he managed to secure a decent player (VdV) for a bargain bucket price at the end of the window. From that point on, Harry was tight as he had no choice.

Curious how most people think the problem is DL. The selling club can also play silly buggers.

This is horse trading plain and simple and the best time to try and screw more money out of THFC is 24 hours before the window closes

    [Reply]

    jfdit Reply:

DL is not the problem, if we get the top striker we’re clearly missing our business in this window will be the best in a long while

if we don’t our whole season could go pear shaped with a couple of injuries and ade’s call up to the ANC – then our problem will be one of a failed strategy or failed implementation of that strategy

in recent windows we’ve failed miserably to secure a decent striker, this cannot continue if we are to progress

    [Reply]

Because we are still in an incomplete state with barely 24 hours to go before the deadline?

So Levy costs us another much needed player.

All you Levy lovers need to wake up. He agrees a deal then tries to lower the fee already agreed. 15m for a world class keeper and he thinks that’s too pricey?
He has already fucked up deals for Willian and Mouthinho by expecting to get them for 10m less than the asking price.

Those waiting for a deadline deal for Llorente need to get real. They are asking 27m so we will offer 17m and wonder why we don’t get him.

Levy can fuck off. Tries to con us every window, makes loads on selling players then spends bare minimum to replace. Top four? Hahahaha.

And before the bumboys start defending him, the 4 signings we have made are average at best, Siggy is a squad player , Ade is lazy and a poor finisher, Dembele has had one good game in 2 seasons and Vert is the best of a bad bunch.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head there RG.

There are dipsticks out there that stake their rep on the big names, then get all diva-ish when it falls through, thereby making them look like big shiny bell-ends to their mates. They will save fa if it’s Levy’s fault.

Last season levy spent £6m on Parker, got brad on a free, ade loan fee, sold crouch, willy,Keane and pav £31m, season before bought vdv pienaar, khumalo all for £12m but with £25m champs league money, this window got in £50m spent £38m, £12m difference ( just what we offered for will.i.am Coincidence think not) levy playing A blinder gets bale to sign new contract gets avb to sign, and won’t spend a penny ( net ) the point about he’s trying to con us is we are being told the new stadium won’t affect transfers etc, he’s playing another blinder with us

Spending money for sake of it? Let’s look at a case study:

Liverpool have £50 mill waved at them by a desperate Russian gangster for the magic beans that are Torres. They chuck £35 mill of that at the Geordies for a Clydesdale horse – Why? Because he was the finished article? because he was World class? No, because they had a load of cash lying around and they thought they had to spend it.

Consequence: Breakingnews – Andy Carroll joins West Ham n Loan for the season, 18 months after moving to Anfield. £35 mill down the swanney

OF the ‘close to £100 mill’ that Liverpool spent in the last two seasons, all of it is sitting on the bench now under Rodgers, except the racist.

If you want an expample closer to home, we could look at the mysterious case of the missing Bentley?

Levy will not risk several seasons of mediocrity, and irrepairable damage to the brand/business/franchise (whatever turns him on) by punting all our money on one messiah. We should rejoice in this, as in recent seasons it has meant we have shown steady, and consistent progress, and relative success in the most competitive league in World Football.

As I say to my tortured Gooner foe, when they laugh at our CL mis-fortune, “I’d rather be on the way up, than on the way down”.

    This is how it works.
    I open a Twitter account.
I call myself “@Official ITK Agent”
I post “Messi enquiries made by #THFC”
Lost of people then retweet causing a stir.
    It doesnt happen, obvioulsy.
But now Levy is an inactive let down who fucks up our chance of the PL title…

I’ll give you an insight into how things work in every business.
Tentative offers are made, subject to contract. Sometimes the purchaser or seller then takes that proposal as a comitment.
It isnt, its a proposal subject to contract. Sometimes those offers are made by agents who believe they may be working on the buyers or sellers behalf.
    It happens all the time.
I work in the drinks business. I will get a call in the morning “Ive got a truck full of X, it will cost you £X” What I now know is that the seller is willing to sell, I dont have an interest in the cost becasue I can work out my own cost, but I may have some tradables the seller may want, so I;ll speak to him directly and offer a price that isnt linked in anyway to the “proposal” he may have already agreed with the agent.
Now he is pissed becasue he isnt getting the 10K he thought, Ive only offered 5K, but then I tell him I might be interstesd in another truck full next week and the week after, he then tells me thast intersteing but he cant accept 5K it has to be 10K, I offer 6K and a promise if the stock moves quickly I will garantee him another truck full the following week for 6K again…. We end up at 7K and everyone is happy…. accept the agent who says he feels let down so you pay him a minimal finders fee… say £500. so now the deal has changed by 25% and the same deal is done.

    Boom.

    Today will be torture.

Maybe by the end of it we will get a new GK, new CM and new Striker.

Yes we all want the best that’s available but unfortunately we can’t afford to do that – that’s what City and Chelsea can do. Not us.

What I do trust is that AVB will work with DL to get the best players that we can attract and afford. I am much more comfortable with this that I would be with Harry Rednap working with DL. I do not think that we will bring in any players who do not fit AVB’s style of play – this in itself is heartening as there is nothing worse than watching players who do not give their all when playing for Spurs.

What I also expect is that we will get rid of some more fringe players. In the past harry would like to keep them around just in case he might ever need them. I believe AVB is much more ruthless and if they are not in his plans he will want to move them on. I think that DL has more faith in AVB and will be comfortable to get rid of players based on AVBs assessment of their potential. I could never imagine DL listening to suggestions from Harry that we should let Tom H go out on loan or sell VDV or Dawson – it just wouldn’t happen. He would be wondering where the kick backs for Harry were in the deals :-)

If we got no one else in I’d be happy enough with this window provided we could get rid of some more dross. I’d like to see Jenas and Bentley moved on as I don’t think they offer anything to us.

It’s gonna be a long day but look on the bright side – we won’t end up with a Frazier Campbell or Grzegorz Rasiak – not while AVB is in charge.

If Lloris and Moutinho come in as expected will some Spurs fans actually stop moaning? Anyone else getting fed up with the parrots saying “JD cant lead the line” over and over when he got 17 goals last season and so far 1 scored, 1 dissalowed and hit post, he also scored in friendly under AVB. These are stats not waffle. In AVB and DL i trust. In forum gobshites i dont.
