Good evening.

836,357 people have assured me this evening that I need to lose weight and brush up my social skills a bid has been accepted for long term Chicken Badge allergy sufferer Luka Modric.

If this is the case then goodbye and good riddance. Ooh …’nasty Harry’ I hear you say. Well, not really. My bitter sentiments don’t get borne out of boredom. Chancers like Luka and Dimitar could have stayed where they where and been an integral part of something good. Something worthwhile.

But when we are dealing with these type of half men …who spiritually come from a place so low that even the rats are hunchbacked …what can one expect?

Will a deal on Modders include a Noel Edmond’s Saturday Swap Shop stylee player plus cash deal? I sincerely doubt it.Will this spark a flurry of Tottingham shaped transfer activity? I sincerely doubt it. But Levy & Co are 100% working overtime…

“…But when we are dealing with these type of half men who spiritually come from a place so low that even the rats are hunchbacked …what can one expect?” :-D :-D

Truth is; Modric is not entirely irreplaceable. But unfortunately the earlier trust I had placed in AVB’s “modern” and tactically rich methods disappeared with his newfound love for the donkey Jenas. He (AVB) is still learning the trade and is not yet astute enough to identify real talent…and distinguish it from real rubbish such as Jenas. He’s easily fooled.

I think its time I became more pragmatic and stopped this sentimental attachment I have for Spurs. A club that still plays Jenas in a vital area such as Central Midfield in 2012…having signed and watched his pathetic displays since 2005…is simply not serious about winning anything.

Sorry but, this is probably yet another wasted season…

Is Levy really as good as we suppose him to be?

Really can’t understand anyone praising Levy on his brinkmanship in these deals. True, he may maximise profit, but every time it has been to the cost of the team. Not once have we re-invested in a quality replacement. Instead it’s panic buying (armed with just a fraction of the profit) at a time when all that’s left are the has-beens and have-nots.

Couple that with how thinning the bloated squad was managed by quoting over-inflated prices for every squad player, resulting in the quality cover (we needed to keep) being sold and the dregs (who we needed to cut our losses on) being left on the shelf…again!

That’s not brinkmanship to me, it’s the blinkered actions from an arrogant “moneyman” who is in grave danger of leading our football club to attrition and decline.

If I remember correctly, he came back saying how happy he was at Spurs but the offer he had would set him and his family up for life, and he couldn’t turn it down.

My point is he shouldn’t have had any offers made to him while under contract and maybe DL could have pursued that further.

AVB must be lining up Moutinho as a potential replacement, but the ball is still firmly in Madrid’s court.

If they don’t come up with a realistic offer Modric will go nowhere. He’s already had the ‘Get over it and prepare yourself for next season’ lecture, and there’s every chance that, if Madrid try to ‘do a Chel$ki’ and make their offer too late for us to get a replacement, they could very well be sent packing with their tail between their legs.

With Chel$ki I’m sure it was a deliberate plan to scupper our season. I wouldn’t expect that from Real Madrid, but they do have an ex-Chav manager so who knows.

All the paper talk is ‘We all know it’s done. Now Madrid just need to make the bid’, which is the same as ‘He’s going nowhere unless a decent offer comes in’.

    [Reply]

    MysteriousStranger Reply:

As the article says, the ITKs are saying a bid has been accepted.

    [Reply]

    Gary B Reply:

I must admit the press are quite bullish about the deal going through and I have more IDK than ITK, but I’m still reading ‘soon’, ‘looks likely’, ‘on the cards’.

We all know Madrid want him and talks are underway, but for me, the fact that they don’t want to pay the going rate for him will always be a problem. A problem for them and for the player, but then they shouldn’t have approached him without permission.

I could be wrong, but I don’t see him leaving for £25m. An offer over £30m could be a different matter, but if it’s to be a late offer it would then need to be closer to the £40m.

Having said all that, they’ll probably do the deal at £25m tomorrow.

As was highlighted on the Official Site, the squad numbers players may have been wearing in preseason games would not neccessarily mean they would be the numbers assigned to them, for the actual season.

Let’s wait and find out. The inference from the club is for the fans to not make the assumption, so perhaps you shouldn’t make them.

    MysteriousStranger Reply:

I have it on no good authority whatsoever that Bale has a gentleman’s agreement with his friend and former dance partner to hold the No. 9 for him, so he is merely keeping it warm for the popular Togolese international Emmanuel Adebayor.

As he is Bale and officially a Tottenham employee, he can simultaneously put a reserve instruction down on his own number 3 shirt until the start of the season, and wear the No. 9. This is done under the pretext of wanting Adebayor’s number for himself in case he doesn’t sign.

Adebayor only wore the No. 10 last year because Roman Pavlyuchenko was concealing the No. 9 shirt under his tracksuit last season.

You can look at it both ways but without the managers and coaches support certain players may not be able to make it happen like Hodgson at Fulham and WBA and Rodgers at Swansea

    Here’s a strategy.

    1. Use the team that took it to Southend 6-0 as the core of our Europa squad.

    2. Make room for the likes of Dos Santos, Caulker, Townshend, etc. in the starting squad and give them solid playing time.

    3. Clinch Adebayor’s acquisition (he’s not going anywhere else).

    4. Promote and demote from either group as performance dictates.

Voila! No need for all the brouhaha and chest thumping about Levy’s failures in the transfer market, and AVB’s being given no support, etc. What’s the advantage in rushing into purchases we may later regret? We have more than enough talent on our books.

I’m not saying that we should turn our backs on talent elsewhere. If Modric goes, yes, use the new funds sensibly if that’s possible within the time frame. But for Gawd’s sake give the lads we already have their chance.

What a message that would send to young talent around the U.K.

    IMHO.

OF all the heartache and pain suffered last season, what with our capitulation against the scum, our premature ejaculation of 3rd place, and the final indignity of the Russian Mafia knocking us out of the CL, there is one abiding memory that gnaws at me: “He plays on the left, he plays on the left, Gareth Bale,… etc. etc”

I don’t mind fans singing out the name of a player who they think should be on the pitch instead of on the bench i.e. Defoe (although after 8 years, and two mediocre stints at the lane they should really know better now), but when they start to sing their preferred formation to the management team it makes me cringe. I mean, why stop there? How about, “Christmas tree, Christmas tree, Christmas tree.”, or “HE plays in the hole, He plays in the hole, VDV, he plays in the hole.” Let’s go teh whole hog, and release an Album : ‘Now that’s what I call Tactics, 4,3,3!’

My guess is that AVB sees a possibility in Bale that has won Man u Titles, and CL’s, by doing similar with Ronaldo, then Rooney. Who remembers Ron’s endless stepovers, leaving opposition defenders laughing there lunch up, then whipping in a cross that no one was good enough to get on the end of? Or who remembers Ron scoring F***kloads of goals as the focal point of the attack? Real Madrid did to teh tune of £90 mill. Point is Bale has outgrown the out and out winger tag – he was always going to be better than that. Don’t get me wrong, he is still the best left sided player in the world, but if what’s in the centre is not good enough to capitalise then he’s wasted – how many games did he ping ball, after beautifully crafted ball into the six yard area, only to look up and see JD texting the latest spit roast picture to one of his mates, or Ade hugging, joking around withone of his ex-teammates in the centre circle.

So, whatever happens in the remainder of the transfer window, whether we add a world class striker or not, enough already with the advice on formations set to music, and let the manager, to whom we pay an awful lot of money, do his f****n’ job!

Granted, but does singing advice on formation during a difficult spell in a game (a) Show the manager the error of his ways, presenting him with the ideal opportunity to change the formation, thereby accepting his mistake in front of the full glare of 36,000 fans, and the watching millions at home, wich then galvanises team spirit, resulting in a turnaround in fortunes, OR (b) Embarrases the manager to the point where he will not back down, and when he eventually makes that change because HE thinks the time is right, only serves to undermines him in front of his players?

The first time he played Bale central was against Chelsea n the league to avoid the pace of Bosingwa, and attack the lack of mobility in Ivanovic at Centre half. If you remember, Ivanovic cried off before half time against a rampant Bale, then Bosingwa moved in, and bale moved out wide, and was then tied up by the experience of Ferreira. I thought it worked well wen Bale was central, so it was good idea to try it again, in ‘one’s opinion’ The only problem for me is I was unable to get it into song format to sing it right back at you and your mates! ;-)

  • LosLorenzo Says:

Adeboy will come, nothing else makes any sense. If we’re done shopping otherwise then you can sum up the net effect of the summer on the squad thus:

    ——————

Vertonghen in, an improvement on the King of last season (certainly the King of the second half of the season). Maybe not better than King at his best, but then we’ll probably get more than 20 games out of the lad, which adds utility over an entire season.

Siggy and Modders are quite different players, but most would say that the Icelander probably isn’t quite the same class.

I’d say what we’ve gained in defense more or less offsets what we’ve lost in midfield.

We’ve rid ourselves of some deadwood, which most are happy for, but which will weaken our depth somewhat. We have/will also bring some younger players into the fold (Kane, Falque, Carroll to name a few candidates). These probably also close to offset.

Normally you expect young players to improve year-on-year, and old players to lose a bit of pace. I would say that these two effects combined lead to a net improvement of our young squad (Gallas and the Geriatric ‘Keepers Society are the only ones I immediately place in the “getting worse” bracket).

If you count the manager as part of “the squad”, I’m hopeful we have strengthened.

    ——————

In total I’d rate us about on par with what we had last year, which really wasn’t too shabby before we entered Troutchops-for-Ingerlund-destructo-mode.

Nobody can dictate who gets injured when, but right now Parker is the only man down, for about a month. We ended last season missing Dawson, Thudd. There were also a number of other injuries, and it’s not unreasonable to hope for better luck on that front this time around. Not having King alone should reduce the number of sick notes passed along.

And the window hasn’t shut. The way I see it, anything we add from here on in is gravy as compared with last season.

Great post LosLorenzo – nail impacting head….

I think siggy will offer ten times more goals and incisive passes than ratface ever did – we may become more direct as a result of Modric leaving.

We will need Sandro, Hudd and Parker at their best through out the season – the jury is still out on Livermore and Jenas has the jury deliberating on him big time…

Also, if we sign Ade, I hope he and Defoe may be given an opportunity to strike up a partnership – something we havent had since Keane and Berbatoss

    [Reply]

    LosLorenzo Reply:

If the jury is composed of HH readers, I don’t think they’re deliberating regarding Jenas any longer. I think they’ve given their verdict, dragged the defendant to the gallows, bribed the executioner to hurry it up, cheered for the spectacle, had a few pints down the pub, picked up milk on the way home, violated the missus and dozed off in front of the TV.

Doubt we’ll see two proper strikers together on a regular basis. Ade & Defoe might play together with Midget Gem on one of the wings, but I have my doubts as to how well he would manage that role. And these striker types tend to get pretty cranky when they don’t get to play in the middle (just ask Sturrige, Torres or Ba).

as far as Levy being a tough negotiator.Negotiating is not only about toughness. Sometimes its the opposite.
You can be conservative and act like you dont need to make the deal but that doesnt mean you are a good negotiator.
A great negotiator gets his share of targets and make a few good deals along the way and doesnt lose the ones he really wants.
Its not just about being tough and independent.Thats only one aspect.
If Modric goes for 25 mil it would be a defeat and the only face saving deal he could make is getting a players plus cash in return where the jury would still be out.

    Razspur Reply:

There will always be stipulations with any contract, when he plays 35 games £5m, 70 games a further £5m and don’t forget the 25% of any sell on profit.
Transfers are rarely as straightforward as the fan in the street assumes.
Perhaps we will have a special relationship with Real, just like the one we have with Internacional, priceless.

    [Reply]

    Ronnie Wolman Reply:

Thats a possibility but if we do have a good relationship why has it taken so long?
and Nuri Sahin is a great playmaker we could part in return but all the talk this week is of Liverpool or arse getting him.
Let the relationship start here. Get Sahin and buy Llorente and Cesar for GDS and we are done

    [Reply]

    Razspur Reply:

But the talk is paper talk and talksport and blog talk, it has little fact yet amazes me how many give it credence.
Llorente, Cesar and Moutinho would be super, plenty of time yet.

    Ronnie Wolman Reply:

I dont give it credence but as you know there are too many people on blogs that actually know whats going on.Its all speculation.Whether you get the idea from an article, blog or an epiphany its all the same…its an idea or speculation at best.

Croatia’s manager Igor Stimac the ex-West Ham defender and probably a good mate of Harry’s seems intent on shooting his mouth off just like HR. Can’t say too much about what he said as it’s likely to become sub judice, Levy’s not the type of guy to pick a legal fight with, especially if you intend to use the media to support and inflate rumours.

It could be 20 points.Who knows.
I havent seen anything that would say that we are capable of reaching last years position. The truth is we dont have any idea.
We were not great last year.We did have a great benefit in the fact that Chelsea, the arse and Liverpool were worse than us most of the season.
This season Chelsea has to be considered a strong bet for 2nd or 3rd.
We wont have it easy. We dont have enough quality players yet and the system takes time if it indeed will work (Im not big on relying on the offside trap to win games)
Another two quality players would spring us forward.
The five million saved would mean nothing in the overall scheme of things.

He cost us more than 5 points last season by forfeiting the first two games to haggle for another week for parker/ade, and then some more with his cheapskate january transfer dealings.

I think its a reasonable assumption Levy would jump at this.

    Ronnie Wolman Reply:

what did VDV cost????? and how much money did it make for us?

    Razspur Reply:

City and United finished Champions and Runners Up and you blame Levy for those defeats, no talk of the dressing room hangover from Modric’s scenario or Harry’s failure to motivate, what age are you, 7, 8 or 9.

    jolsgonemental Reply:

Ill be nearly 12 in November.

We lost to a last minute goal to City at their ground – no reason to believe we couldnt have got a point against them at home. Conceding defeat to teams because they finished 2 places higher than us is a defeatist attitude.

What do you gain from banging the Levy drum exactly?

    Razspur Reply:

What do you hope to gain by constantly slagging him off, he is our Chairman, have a little faith and get behind the Club in it’s endeavours and stop panicking the window has 15 days and 10 hours left.

don’t really see how we can be that critical of a player wanting to leave to treble his wages and win major tournaments for just about the biggest club in the world.

Whilst we are where we are as the 4th/5th best team in England and with a sensible wage structure based on gate receipts roughly half of our competitors, this cycle of our best player leaving for more money/better chance of trophies will continue.

The only hope to break it before the new stadium is that
    1) a few young players emerge & develop very quickly
    2) The manager has sufficient charisma/coaching skills that top players will sacrifice the $$ they could get elsewhere.
    3) We achieve Champs League for one season, invest most of the extra millions of TV money in increasing wage budget and gamble that we keep getting in Champs League so we can afford to maintain that wage increase (which is why it was such a damn shame that Chelski won that Champs League final).

Lets lay off Modric… whoever we end up getting to replace him will end up getting booed in 3 years if/when we find ourselves in exactly the same situation

In The 94/95 season Klinsmann & Sheringham scored a total of 38 goals but Ossie forgot that the other team try to score as well and lost his job. Gerry Francis tightened up the defence but it was too late and we finished 6th
This season we’re building from the back but a pair of 38′s would be lovely.

I think the subject of ***** needs an airing. H – i’d be interested in your considered opinion on him and why he should be viewed as one of the worst ever Spurs players. Which to my mind he should. Am i being unfair?

Remember the important goals he’s got against Arsenal over the years. Should we cut him some slack as a consequence?

My mate had a point of view that the real crime is that he’s only ever been ‘quite good’ when at his best. He’s never shown the attitude or desire to be ‘really good’ or ‘excellent’ when you just know that he could have been as he had bags of ability. He also slates him a ‘pea-heart’ and a ‘carpet-bagger’.

Is Jenas now so far over the hill that even the ‘what could be’ thoughts are past their sell by date?

There doesn’t seem to be many players who actually want to join Spurs, only mercenaries who are willing to accept a move thats beneficial to their careers and one that accommodates them financially. No surprise there I guess. But that being the case, shouldn’t we be very cautious how much we sell and buy for, as it’s the make or brake factor in who we can bring in?

I dont think it’s that, we can’t afford to buy a striker for £20m +
I think it’s a case of, we can’t afford to buy the wrong one.

This is just my logic that re-inforces my belief that the club IS doing the right thing, despite these on-going annoyances in players out/in.
It’s only a fiasco if it ends in failure. And the fat lady hasn’t even warmed up yet.
