Good middle of the night. @FoxSoccer have broken the news…

“Former U.S. international Brad Friedel is set to leave Villa Park to join Tottenham Hotspur, sources have confirmed to FOX Soccer.

The 40-year-old goalkeeper, having finished a three-year run at Aston Villa, will move to White Hart Lane on a free transfer, with an announcement from Spurs expected early Friday.”

Probably a good move, yet I confess I’m inert. It may be the hour…

Was hoping to hear that he was named as a coach to improve Harry’s mediocre staff. He may need a boyscout to escort him on and off the pitch. :freu

Unlucky Gomes but maybe he will be retained and our Croatian will leave us Friedel and Cudiccini 1st/2nd (to fight it out) Gomes 3rd who knows but good start to the silly season IMHO!!!

Yeah, FoxSoccer is running with this over here. He’s steady, I give you that, and won’t have high profile howlers but he won’t have Gomes’ instinctual stopping ability. Maybe it’s a push over the course of a season?

All you who say they would rather a keeper like gomes who makes 4 0r 5 howlers a season (normally in very high profile games) should think of the effect that those howlers have on the defense and rest of the team. I know from bitter experience that having a keeper behind you that makes howlers causes chaos in your head every time you walk out onto the pitch.

ALL DAY LONG GIVE ME A KEEPER THAT JUST DOES HIS JOB NOTHING FANCY JUST ROCK STEADY, GOOD HANDS, GOOD FEET, GOOD POSITIONING, TALKS TO THE DEFENSE, GOOD DISTRIBUTION. basically reliable.
Stand up Mr Friedal take a bow son.

Other point is our Keeper coaches. I said on line 3 years ago that the then Aston Villa Keeper coach Eric Steele is the best keeper coach in this country, he is a nice guy and a great coach. I said spurs should have picked him up (Chris Hughton is one of his close friends and at the time Chris was with us). We could have got Eric but who has him now? you got it Manure. Eric left Villa for Man City then Manure picked him up. Sign him for spurs worth the effort and cash.

Also prone to making howlers and it might be that Levy wants to spend the money upfront rather than the back. Only so much in the coffers.

Mind you this is where Levy and Harry disagree. Harry wants “now” players who will improve us immediately and Levy wants “sell on value” players so we don’t end up with a bunch of old men. Perhaps Harry wants to build a team of grandads from the back.

Pat Jennings is still on our books isn’t he, the best keeper we have ever had, at one point rated No1 in the world above Gordon Banks.

  • Spurfect Says:

Yes Gomes has made some high profile gaffs this year. But also the year before he was up their as player of the season for a truly great year. Smells of Robbo to me, gets crucified by the press which, in turn gets to him, resulting in a dip in form.

Keepers dont peak until into their 30′s. Gomes has just reached 30. And we’re planning on replacing him with someone whos 40? A keeper likely to improve his inefficiencies with one thats only going to go downhill from here?

Doesn’t make sense to me (As good as Friedel has been). I’d rather get Robbo back in who is back to somewhere near his best and has taken himself out of the spotlight by retiring from International football.

Stinks of being tight for the sake of it, just like the Pienaar deal and just like putting in a low bid for Dimeao (If this bid is true)

the freidel move if true is to replace pletikosa who has left (with the hump i may add)”arry” will have someone in mind to replace go-mess, i would like given or at a push foster or dare i say it robinson.

    Spurfect Reply:

Friedel is looking for 1st team football, he won’t be coming in to be 3rd choice and not even get on the bench. Cudicinis signed up again so he’ll be coming in as 1st choice. Unless he’s being bought in to coach Gomes which I cant see as we already have a goalkeeping coach who has been lauded up until Christmas for how great Gomes had been. Harry said Gomes was going to be our No1 still next year so if this is true it shows you can’t believe a thing he’s talking about.

On another topic seems like Pienaar is NOT the new JJ but the new Darren Anderton. How do we always manage to get so many crocked players? Our BUPA subscriptions must be very expensive. On the issue of Friedel he is at least reliable and consistent albeit I do hope we can get a young, promising keeper in as well who can be our no1 in a season or 2…. Scott Loach from Watford or Alex McCarthy from Reading would be good candidates.

We need 3 keepers and the Pletikosa’s on his way. ‘Arry obviously doesn’t fancy any of our kids (ahem) so has done his wheeler-dealer best and snapped up a half-decent back up. Gomes to remain number 1 (haters will hate), with the other 2 as back up. More money for strikers (hopefully Drogba’s wages…)

The Baddiel bro’s have joined in. I ain’t seen any of our London rivals, the real rascist scum, on this post. If your with a group of any description and get abused, use the language as a counter. Its called solidarity. Brad Friedal is a Yid. That doesn’t mean Brad Friedal is a victim of a race issue, or anyone else at our club. Words evolve like other aspects of life. for THFC yid represents something completely different to what it did/does for Chelsea, West Ham, the SS paramilitary or whoever chose to brutalise a specific target. A high percentage of Spurs are not Jewish. They give a shit though, and to reverse the process being used in a derogatory fashion defuses the filth element that our club is subjected to. We are all on the same side. 15 years or so ago someone behind me in the East lower called Mitchell Thomas a Nigger. -Spurs fan-and it weren’t unusual obviously. That is an issue that systematicly has been eradicated. This is a COMPLETELY different thing. Abuse of that nature is of course wrong. But we come from a place of comradery….well, Thats me banging on, nobodys even bothered. Goodnight to this fruitless argument.
